Russell H. Bacon, age 87, of Abington died on September 22, 2011 at the Maples Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Wrentham after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of Mary F. Bacon. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary in June.
Born in Hanover on February 25, 1924, he was the son of the late Charles and Lillian Bacon. He graduated from Weymouth Trade School and was the owner and operator of Russ’ Atlantic Service Station in Brockton for many years. Travelling across the country, enjoying country music, eating out, spending time with family and tinkering with cars and woodworking activities were some of his passions. He would not hesitate to take a “Sunday drive” to Maine or New Hampshire for the day. Trips to Pennsylvania Amish Country, Florida, New England states, Nashville, TN and Branson, MO were among his favorite vacations.
Besides his loving wife, he is survived by two daughters and five grandchildren. He was the cherished father of Cynthia Elz and her husband, Ronald, of Bellingham, and Priscilla Durant and her husband, Kenneth, of Wrentham; and beloved grandfather of Jason Elz, Brandon Elz, Tyler Durant, Olivia Durant and Emma Durant. Also he is survived by many nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be held Wednesday September 28 at 11 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman.
