Wayland: David Bryant Batt, 42, died unexpectedly of natural causes on Sunday, September 18, 2011 while participating in the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk.
He was born in Baltimore, MD on October 21, 1968 the son of Linda E. (Ebert) Batt of Rensselaer Falls, NY and the late Donald S. Batt.
David was a loving family man who will be missed by his wife, Julie, his three sons, Ethan, Brandon, and Garrett. He joins his daughter Ashley and father, Donald S. Batt in death. He was a generous, loyal, brother, son, and friend.
David was a graduate of Newtown High School and received his BS in Biochemistry from Purdue University. He received his PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Connecticut and his Post Doctoral Degree from Harvard University with Dana Farber Cancer Institute. He has been a Senior Research Scientist since 1998 with Novartis in Cambridge. His co-workers describe him as an exceptional scientist who inspired others and who was respectful of people independently of title and importance. His colleagues remember his intelligence and his great sense of humor.
David was devoted to his wife Julie and their children and enjoyed spending time in the outdoors especially kayaking, fishing, and camping trips. A skilled handyman, he was never without a hammer and a project underway.
A Memorial Service celebrating David’s life will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 4:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte 30), Wayland.
After the service, the family will receive family and friends at their home at 33 Campbell Rd, Wayland Ma, 01778.
Private family interment will be held at their convenience at a later date.
