Methuen, Lucy J. (Savastano) Charette, was peacefully called to her eternal rest, Tuesday, Sept. 20th, surrounded by her loving family after suffering a long illness. She was born and raised in Lawrence, MA, the daughter of Alberico and Assunta Savastano. Lucy was also the beloved wife of the late Lucien J. Charette , who passed away in 2004, sharing 45 wonderful years together.
A graduate of Lawrence High Class of 1944 and MacIntosh Business School, Lucy spent her entire working career serving the clients of Durso, Carey and O’Connell Insurance Agencies. She was known for great customer service, organization and efficiency and was truly an expert in her field.
Lucy was a faithful and active member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish in Methuen, supporting the parish in all ways. Lucy was also the secretary of the Grande Club, a monthly drawing fundraiser for the church for over 25 years.
If you were fortunate to have Lucy in your life, then you knew how she always had you in her thoughts, through prayer, phone calls or a special card. Even in her illness and hospitalization, she made sure that birthday, anniversary, graduation, get well, sympathy and mass cards were sent out; to let those she loved know she would never forget them.
Lucy was a proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, sister and aunt. It was amazing to see how the presence of her grandchildren and especially her baby great-grandchildren, Brody Lucien and Danika Marie, would lift her spirits giving her reason to live, fighting the good fight; and she did with incredible strength and dignity.
On behalf of their mother, Lucy’s children would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses and medical facilities that have cared for her over the years and especially these last four months. We are grateful for your compassion and professional knowledge which allowed us to have these past few years with mom. Lucy will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by her large family and many friends. We also thank from the bottom of our hearts the priests, Eucharistic ministers and all that have offered prayers for our mother. You have been a true source of strength for our family.
She is survived by her children, Robert J. Charette and his wife Carol of Methuen, Lori-Ann Charette-McLaughlin and her husband Billy of Derry, NH. Donna J. Charette-Lavoie and John Zinno of Methuen and Lucien J. Charette and his wife Lynn of Orange, VA. Brothers, Dante Savastano and Albert and his wife Maureen (Driscoll) Savastano both of Lawrence, sisters America Savastano and Connie Cunha of Seabrook Beach, NH, and Olga Grossi of Methuen. Sisters-in-law Carmela Savastano and Doris Rancourt and husband Leo of Florida. She was predeceased by her brothers, Charlie, Harry, Roland (Ben), Guido (Jack), and Edmund Savastano. Beloved grandmother to eleven, great-grandmother to five and aunt to many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be warmly received on Friday from 2-6pm in St. Theresa Church, OLGC Parish, 22 Plymouth St., Methuen. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 7pm. Interment will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Lucy’s wishes are to have donations made out to OLGC Parish, 22 Plymouth St, Methuen, MA 01844.
