Obituary

FAIRHAVEN — Irmgard Denault, age 87, of Fairhaven, passed away September 18th, 2011, after a brief illness.

Born Irmgard Schneider, in Germany, the daughter of Heinrich and Margareta Schneider, she grew up in poverty after the death of her father at age 8. She lived through World War II as a young Kindergarten teacher, enduring bombing attacks and post war starvation.

She met her husband, Louis, a member of the post war Allied occupation forces, in 1948, and immigrated to the United States in 1950 with her husband and son. She became a United States citizen in 1955 and operated Donald Duck Day Nursery School in Fairhaven for 27 years, where she was known as Aunty Irmi.

After retirement she wrote, traveled with her husband, worked in her flower garden, and spent as much time as possible with her family, especially her much beloved grandchildren. A very loving and giving woman, she will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

She is survived by her son, Rhet and his wife, Cynthia of Fairhaven; two grandchildren, Sabrina and Brett and his fiancee, Amy.

Visitation will take place on Friday morning, Sept. 23rd, from 9 to 10 A.M. in the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford, with a service at 10 A.M., followed by burial in River-side Cemetery in Fairhaven.

Remembrances may be made in her name to the Organ Fund of the Unitarian Memorial Church, 102 Green St., Fairhaven.
