BRADFORD: Leo J. Burns, 66, died Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at the Penacook Place in Haverhill following a long battle with cancer. He was the husband of Heidi M. (King) Burns.
Born in Brockton on December 13, 1944, he was the son of the late John and Anna (Joubert) Burns. A graduate of Whitman-Hanson High School, he had resided in Brockton for many years before moving to Bradford in 1993.
Leo was employed at the New Balance Shoe Company in Lawrence for twenty-five years before retiring in 2006. He was a member of the French Social Club in Lawrence and enjoyed fishing and boating in Newburyport.
In addition to his wife of seventeen years, he is survived by his son, Leo J. Burns, Jr. and his wife, Stacy of Salem, New Hampshire; three daughters, Denise Burns, Karen Williams and Deborah Burns; six grandchildren; a brother, John Burns of Brockton and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his sister, Valerie Madden and his brother, Robert Burns.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday in the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 52 Salem Street, Bradford at 7 p.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 5 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, 360 Merrimack St., Bldg. 9, Lawrence, MA 01843.
