Obituary

EVERETT, WA – John A. Devine, Sr., 88 of Everett, Washington and former Methuen resident and retired Methuen Police Officer died Wednesday September 7, 2011 at the Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett, WA.

Born and educated in Methuen, MA, he was the son of James and Margaret (Cunningham) Devine, he was a graduate of the Edward F. Searles High School with the Class of 1941. During World War II and the Korean Conflict he served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged.

John was a police officer with the Town of Methuen, and during his tenure on the force during the winter he saved the life of a thirteen year old boy from the freezing weather, captured a cat burglar at 4 o’clock in the morning and 1971 he was named police officer of the year. John was also a member of the American Legion.

The widower of Josephine (Quirinalle) Devine, he is survived by his children, Maureen Belden and her husband Rick of Everett, WA, Margaret Pepper and her husband Al of Cape Coral, FL, Mary Mounts and her husband Mike of New York, Bart Devine and his wife Mary and John A. Devine, Jr., and his wife Jody both of Anacortes, FL
Many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
John was the father of the late William Devine and grandfather of the late Matthew and Jennifer Devine.

ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends may call on Friday from 4:00p.m. – 8:00p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:00a.m. in St. Monica’s Church in Methuen, MA with burial to follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence, MA.
