
Eugene Frank "Pat" Pattterson passed away on Sept. 9, 2011, at The Crossings West campus in New London.
Born Jan. 25, 1920, the son of Lee and Emma (Gray) Patterson of Alabama.
He was predeceased by two sisters and a brother.
Pat came to Groton in late 1942 where he was stationed with the U.S. Army at Fort Griswold. He served in the European theater of operations with the 562nd anti-aircraft battalion and was in the Battle of the Bulge.
Around 1947, he opened and operated Pat's Diner on Thames Street in Groton. Upon its closing, he worked as a meat cutter for the First National Stores until his retirement.
He is survived by his son, Eugene Patterson Jr., and wife, Linda, of Groton; two grandchildren, Jeffery Patterson of Groton and Renee Walker of Niantic; and two great-granddaughters, Brandy and Jessica Walker.
Private burial will take place at Veterans Cemetery in Middletown at a later date.
