Obituary

Virginia L. Ball, 87, sister of the originator of the "Smiley" face logo, Harvey R. Ball, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2011. Virginia was born in Worcester, daughter of Christine (Ross) and Ernest G. Ball, Sr. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Jessie (Ball) Gowans; 4 brothers, Ernest "Grant" Ball, Harvey R. Ball, Raymond D. Ball, and her twin brother Merritt L. Ball as well as her companion, Eric Swanberg.

She was a graduate of Commerce High School and was a librarian at the Worcester Public Library for 37 years. Virginia enjoyed attending flea markets, eating at the Pickle Barrel, watching T.V. game shows, and arts & crafts.

Calling hours will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Thursday, Sept. 15, from 5-7 p.m. The funeral service and burial in Hope Cemetery will be private. For directions to the funeral home and to leave a message in Virginia's guestbook, please click link below.
