Over the decades, Nancy created a welcoming home for her many friends and family, with book-lined rooms that reflected her love of art and antiques. With our hearts lifted up we bid farewell to Tamara Boriakoff. Daughter to Nicandre and Julia, Mother to Alexander and Andrei, Sister to Victor and Luisa, Grandmother to Elena and Matthew, Godmother to Cornelia and wife to Valentin. Born in 1939 in Kramatorsk Ukraine, Tamara and her family were refugees during the end of the second world war and even passed Dresden when the Allies were bombing. After a long journey the family ended up in Europe in Germany and Belgium with the future intention to emigrate to the United States. Due to the strict immigration policies of the time, they had to wait until 1959 to make the trip to this country. After arriving in New York Tamara worked a job at Termina Construction which she very much enjoyed. Soon after that she met Valentin Boriakoff a graduate student and was married in 1969. In 1974 and 1977 respectively her sons Alexander and Andrei were born and the family moved to Ithaca New York where she selflessly served her family as housewife. The gardens she planted were stunning displays of beauty and bounty. Sundays were spent at Entrance of the Theotokos parish outside of Syracuse, NY. Leading by example, she drove 4 hours to celebrate the Divine Liturgy every week with her children. A career change landed the family in Worcester Massachusetts briefly followed by settling in Northboro for over 2 decades. During that time the children grew up, and she spent her time serving Parish of Holy Epiphany in Roslindale. Eventually she became the Head sister of the sisterhood. She worked tirelessly preparing trapezas after Liturgy. Fundraising efforts were nonstop. Thousands of pierozhki and goods were prepared and sold. The efforts were critical to the growth of the church to the present day. Tamara believed that giving sacrificially of yourself to the efforts of the church truly raise the Body of Christ. In recent years after retiring from the Sisterhood, Tamara moved to Hudson and spent her days in retirement. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren. She loved going on food shopping trips and was always looking for good deals at the butcher shop. She continued to support the church by contributing to Holy Epiphany and Holy Annunciation coffee hours frequently. Tamara fell asleep in the Lord on Wednesday September 30, 2026 on the eve of the Great Feast of the The Protection of our Most Holy Lady the Mother of God and Ever-Virgin Mary, The Great Feast of the Sisterhood. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, resilience, generosity, and an enduring love for her Puerto Rican heritage. Born Petra Burgos Ortiz on August 9, 1942, to Isabel Ortiz and Braulio Burgos, Olga was raised in Las Piedras, Puerto Rico, alongside her siblings, all of whom predeceased her. The island remained deeply rooted in her heart throughout her life. At just twelve years old, Olga left Puerto Rico for the United States, beginning a journey that would ultimately span generations. She settled first in Passaic, New Jersey. It was there that she met Angel Maldonado, and together they began what would become a large and lively family of eleven children. In 1969, Olga moved her family to Boston, Massachusetts, where she continued the demanding work of raising her children through a period of tremendous social change in the city, including Boston s turbulent school-busing era of the 1970s. During her early years in Boston, Olga also worked in local factories, part of a generation of working families whose labor helped sustain their homes and communities before many of those factories eventually closed. Through it all, Olga possessed a relentless resilience and determination to provide for her family. As a mother, she famously ran a tight ship. She was strong, no-nonsense, and determined that her children would learn life s lessons and find their way in the world. But beneath that strength was an extraordinary capacity for love. Over the years, the home she created became a place of warmth and belonging, and not only for her children and grandchildren, but for extended family, friends, and countless others who found themselves welcomed through her door. And if you walked through that door, Olga would feed you. She was an extraordinary cook who could seemingly make a meal from nothing. The aromas from her kitchen called everyone in. Her arroz con gandules and pernil, sancocho, pollo guisado, chuletas fritas, and pasteles became part of the language of love in her family. Her food did more than nourish, it gathered people around her table, connected generations, and made home feel like home. And las Navidades brought traditions all their own. Nochebuena and la Despedida del Año were loud, joyful family fiestas filled with her arroz dulce and coquito, music playing, people dancing, laughter, and generations celebrating together. Somehow, there was always room for everyone. These were the gatherings her family could count on year after year. And as one year gave way to the next, there were tears for the year left behind and dreams of the blessings the new one might bring. Olga was a devoted Catholic, grounded throughout her life by a strong and abiding faith. She was also full of joy and loved being surrounded by people. Dominoes and bingo were among her favorite pastimes, but for Olga they were also about community. On warm days, her corner lot would come alive with domino tables, as she and Jose gathered with friends for lively tournaments that could carry on for hours. Bingo was just as serious and social, with neighborhood friends gathering several days a week, cards and markers spread before them, playing official rounds for prizes. These simple traditions brought together the people and neighborhood she loved and reflected Olga at her happiest: surrounded by laughter, friendly competition, and community. And Olga loved Puerto Rico. She carried her culture visibly wherever she went. As a member of Villa Victoria s plena dance group, Olga rarely missed an opportunity to celebrate Puerto Rican life and culture. Festivals, parades, and community celebrations found her there, always socializing, dancing, surrounded by people, and proudly waving the Puerto Rican flag. At the center of everything was her family. Olga adored her children and the generations that followed them. From a mother of eleven grew a remarkable family that today includes 38 grandchildren, 95 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren. She was generous with all of them, with her food, her home, her wisdom, her time, and most importantly, her love. Olga shared 40 years of life and companionship with her husband, Jose Rodriguez, who survives her. She was predeceased by her former husband, Angel Maldonado, and her beloved son, Angel Maldonado Jr. She leaves to carry forward her legacy her ten children: Olga Maldonado Mercado, Blanca Maldonado, Anita Maldonado Baez, Migdalia Maldonado, Sonia Maldonado, Maribel Maldonado, Minelba Maldonado, Nelson Maldonado, Melvin Maldonado, and Jacqueline Maldonado Castillo; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and an extended circle of family and friends whose lives were touched by her. La época navideña traía consigo sus propias tradiciones. La Nochebuena y la Despedida del Año eran fiestas familiares llenas de alegría y bullicio, con su arroz dulce y el coquito, música, baile, risas y varias generaciones celebrando unidas. De alguna manera, siempre había sitio para todos. Eran reuniones con las que su familia podía contar año tras año. El dominó y el bingo estaban entre sus pasatiempos favoritos, pero para Olga también eran una forma de fomentar la comunidad. El bingo era una actividad igual de seria y social: los amigos del vecindario se reunían varios días a la semana, con los cartones y marcadores desplegados ante ellos, para jugar partidas oficiales y ganar premios. Estas sencillas tradiciones unían a las personas y al vecindario que ella tanto quería, y reflejaban a la Olga más feliz: rodeada de risas, sana competencia y comunidad. Además, Olga amaba a Puerto Rico. Llevaba su cultura consigo allá donde iba. Como miembro del grupo de baile de plena de Villa Victoria, Olga rara vez dejaba pasar la oportunidad de celebrar la vida y la cultura puertorriqueñas. Se la veía en festivales, desfiles y celebraciones comunitarias, siempre socializando, bailando, rodeada de gente y ondeando con orgullo la bandera de Puerto Rico. En el centro de todo estaba su familia. Olga adoraba a sus hijos y a las generaciones que les siguieron. De una madre de once hijos surgió una familia extraordinaria que hoy cuenta con 38 nietos, 95 bisnietos y varios tataranietos. Fue generosa con todos ellos: compartía su comida, su hogar, su sabiduría, su tiempo y, lo más importante, su amor. Olga compartió 40 años de vida y compañía con su esposo, José Rodríguez, quien le sobrevive. Le precedieron en la muerte su exesposo, Ángel Maldonado, y su amado hijo, Ángel Maldonado Jr. Deja como legado a sus diez hijos: Olga Maldonado Mercado, Blanca Maldonado, Anita Maldonado Baez, Migdalia Maldonado, Sonia Maldonado, Maribel Maldonado, Minelba Maldonado, Nelson Maldonado, Melvin Maldonado y Jacqueline Maldonado Castillo; a sus nietos, bisnietos y tataranietos; así como a un amplio círculo de familiares y amigos cuyas vidas se vieron enriquecidas por la suya. Su hermosa vida perdura en las generaciones que formó, en las tradiciones que transmitió y en las innumerables personas a quienes acogió en su corazón y en su hogar. El velatorio tendrá lugar en la funeraria Brady &amp; Fallon (ubicada en 10 Tower St., frente a la estación de metro Forest Hills en Jamaica Plain) el lunes 5 de octubre, de 5:00 p. m. a 8:00 p. m.; se invita respetuosamente a familiares y amigos a asistir.
