BEVERLY: James R. Cattell, Jr., 48, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 in the Beverly Hospital. He was the husband of Madeline T. (Giattino) Cattell.
Born in White Plains, NY on February 12, 1963, he was the son of James R., Sr. and Carol (Myers) Cattell of Florida. He took great pride in being a graduate of Mt. Vernon High School in New York. He then went on to attend Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania, where he was on the varsity football team and then went on to graduate from Mercy College in New York. He moved to Beverly with his family in 1998.
He employed in the shipping and logistics industry for thirty-four years. Jim was an avid reader and also enjoyed drawing with his son Justin. A New YorkYankees and Giants fan, he loved watching the games with his sons, and he took pleasure in watching Rob play football. He had a wonderful sense of humor and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his high school sweetheart and wife of twenty-three years, he is survived by two sons, Robert James Cattell and Justin Everett Cattell; three sisters, Julia and her husband, James Murphy and Maureen Cattell all of New York and Victoria Cattell of Florida; a brother, Ken Mikus of New York; maternal grandparents, Charles and Elsie Tilcens of Bradford, England and several nieces and a nephew. He was also predeceased by his brother, Robert Charles Cattell, and his paternal grandparents, Robert and Gertude (Devenny) Cattell.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday in the St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 253 Cabot St., Beverly at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Friday evening in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot street, Beverly from 4 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Cattell Family Trust Fund, c/o Alexander and Femino, 1 School St., Beverly, MA 01915.
