Maureen MacDonald – 58 – passed away on July 27, 2011 after a hard fought battle with A.L.S. Maureen dedicated her life to teaching children with special needs; initially at Curtis Blake Day School in Springfield, MA and most recently at Furnace Brook Middle School in Marshfield, MA. Maureen leaves behind her husband of 39 years Richard A. MacDonald, daughter Laura Burpee who is 7 months pregnant with Maureen’s first grandchild, son Richard P. MacDonald, daughter Megan MacDonald, son-in-law James Burpee, her brother John Callahan and sister Kathleen Callahan. Nephew and caretaker Timothy Callahan as well as various other family members and friends. Maureen’s kindness, compassion and love of life will be remembered and cherished by many. Maureen’s life was cut short by this devastating disease, therefore in lieu of flowers her family asks that donations be made to Compassionate Care ALS in memory of Maureen. CCALS is a non-profit organization that provided support and guidance to her family throughout this illness.
