Robert M. Demers, 70, of Chester, NH, died at home surrounded by family Saturday July 2, 2011 after a lengthy illness. He was born April 13, 1941 in Methuen, MA and was a son of the late Earle, and Lida (Buneau), Demers. He was raised and educated in Salem, where he attended the Number 9 School and Woodbury high school in Salem. Mr. Demers owned and operated a forklift repair company; Demers Industrial Truck of Lawrence, MA and Chester, for 45 years. He enjoyed travel and camping. He was affectionately known by his children and grandchildren as "Henry", and will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather, who cherished his family.
Members of the family include his wife of 52 years, Katherine (Richards) Demers, four sons and their wives, Robert M. Jr, and Diane Demers, of Methuen, MA, George and Elaine Anderson of Groveland, MA, Richard and Sharry Demers of Raymond, and David and Helen Demers of Chester, three daughters, Sharon Demers of Essex Junction, VT, Kimarie Lawrence and her husband Scott of Fremont, and Nicole Simoneau and her husband Chris of Fremont, 22 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, two brothers and their wives, Donald and Carrie Demers, and Carl and Mary Demers, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Earle "Teddy" Demers.
Calling hours were held on Wednesday July 6, 2011 from 5pm to 9pm at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday July 7th at 10:00am at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Ave., Derry. The burial concluded at Great Hill Cemetery, Rt. 121A in Chester.
