Norman L. Cousins, Sr., 77 of Derry died Wednesday June 15, 2011, at his residence after a period of declining health. Mr. Cousins was born July 23, 1933 in Waterbury, VT and was a son of the late Lionel and Thelma (Ripley) Cousins. He was raised in Waterbury, relocating to Derry at the age of 14, where he graduated from Pinkerton Academy in 1952. Mr. Cousins served in the US Army during the Korean War, after which he returned to New Hampshire. He was employed for 39 years as an electrical engineer with Raytheon Corporation in Waltham, MA., and was a longtime member of the IBEW local 103 of Boston. Mr. Cousins was a member of Londonderry Grange #44, and the American Volkssports Association. He also enjoyed bowling. He will long be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
Members of the family include his wife of 54 years, Martzen (Groves) Cousins of Derry, three sons, Michael Cousins and his wife Darlene of Baltimore, MD, Robert Cousins of Allenstown, and Norman Cousins, Jr. of Derry, four grandchildren, Michael Cousins, Jr., James W. Cousins, Rebecca Cousins and Holly Cousins. He also has two brothers, Ralph Cousins, of the Villages, FL and Willard Cousins, of Newton, NC, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Following cremation, calling hours will be held on Tuesday July 5, 2011 from 6 - 7:30pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A funeral service will follow at 7:30pm in the funeral home. Private family burial will be held at Waterbury Center Cemetery in Waterbury, VT at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Manchester Visiting Nurse Association, 33 South Commercial St., Suite 401, Manchester, NH 03101.
