Obituary

Jeremiah Michael "Jerry" Daly, 48, of Marion died Saturday February 9, 2002 at home after a long battle with brain cancer. He was the husband of Anne Logan Daley, and son of Emilie (Fitzpatrick) Daly of Middlebury, CT and the late Edmund J. Daly III.

Born in Waterbury, CT, he was raised in Middlebury and lived in Marion for the past 16 years. He was a graduate of Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, MA. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Dartmouth College and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the Amos Tuck School of Business. After school, he migrated to the golf industry. His life revolved around his love of family and golf.

At Deerfield Academy he was a four time letterman who won both the Vermont and Connecticut Junior Championships in golf. At Dartmouth he quickly established himself as the team's number one player, beginning a run of four consecutive NCAA Championship appearances and four consecutive honorable mention All-America awards.

He was a member of the Kittansett Club in Marion, serving as its President for three years. An accomplished golfer, he won nine consecutive club championships at Kittansett and previously was the club champion of Crown Point Country Club in Springfield, Vermont for five years.

Mr. Daly joined FootJoy as a marketing manager and then moved to Acushnet Company (parent of Titleist) as national sales manager and played a role in the company's acquisition of FootJoy. After a stint in the corporate office of Acushnet's parent company, American Brands, he returned to golf as Vice President of sales and Marketing with Etonic golf shoe business before becoming General Manager of Rockport. He then pursued his own golf ventures.

He is survived by his wife and mother; 5 children, Jeremiah, Sarah, Benjamin, William, and Jessica, all of Marion; a brother, Edmund J. "Ned" Daly IV, and his wife Kitty, of Baltimore, MD; and nieces and nephews.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday February 12, 2002 at 11 AM in St. Anthony's Church, Mattapoisett. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Marion. Visiting hours will be private. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, Brookline, MA 02445-7295.
