Obituary

RUTH E. (PORTER) MACLEAN, 90, of Hingham, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2011 following a long illness. She was the widow of Frank H. MacLean, former editor and publisher of The Hingham Journal.

Born in Burlington, VT on November 11th, 1920, Ruth spent her childhood with her two late brothers, Clifford and John on a dairy farm in Cambridge, VT. run by her parents, Norman and Clara Porter. After graduating in 1941 from Johnson State Teachers College in Johnson, VT, she taught briefly in North Hyde Park, VT before moving to Hingham, where she continued teaching and met her future husband.

Married from July 1947 until Frank's death in September 1990, she is survived by her sons, Douglas P. MacLean and his wife Linda of Milton and Bruce E. MacLean and his wife Margaret of Peacham, VT; two daughters, Barbara M. Fisher and her husband Fred of Boulder, CO and Nancy M. Fitzgerald of Superior, CO. Also survived by three granddaughters; Alexandra S. MacLean and her husband Tony Rossi of Peacham, VT, Kristin L. Wall and Kelly A. Fitzgerald both of Superior, CO.

She was an active member of the Hingham Historical Society's Old Ordinary, Boston's Doric Dames, the Hingham Garden Club and the Hingham Congregational Church for which she sang in the choir for over sixty years.

A Memorial Service will be conducted on Saturday, May 14th at 11 AM at the Hingham Congregational Church, 378 Main St. (Rt. 228).

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Hospice of the South Shore, 100 Baystate Rd., PO Box 859060, Braintree, MA 02185-9060.

The interment is to be private.
