BEVERLY: Margaret M. (Loughlin) Collins, 90, formerly of Chipman Road, died Saturday, April 23, 2011. Margaret was the wife of her lifelong love, the late Joseph L. Collins with whom she shared sixty years of marriage prior to his passing in March of 2001.
Born in Everett on May 7, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Catherine (Cochrane) Loughlin. Margaret was raised and educated in Everett and was a graduate of Everett High School class of 1938.
Margaret and Joseph made their life together in Beverly where they proudly raised their five children. As a longtime Beverly resident, Margaret attended St. John’s Evangelist Church. She revered her faith and was devoutly religious throughout her life. She was employed for many years at Johnny Appleseed’s in Beverly, where she worked in the business office. Margaret was an active member of the Lothrup Club, one of the earliest women’s clubs in the Northeast region.
As a first generation American, Margaret adored her Irish heritage. She traveled to her family’s homeland twice during her eighties to celebrate and reconnect with her Irish roots.
She was an avid sports fan. Long after her children’s years of baseball, basketball and hockey were over she planned her schedule around her beloved Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots. Margaret took pride in her own health, participating in senior aerobic classes well into her octogenarian years. Margaret adored all things pink and was always a lovely sight to see. Margaret was adored by her children. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her four loving children, Margaret M. Moss of Fairfax, VA, Barbara A. Cunney of Salem, Edward L. Collins and his wife Sally of Highland Ranch, CO and Jody Collins and her husband Jeffrey Milne of Manchester, a daughter-in-law, Deborah Collins-Holden of Danvers, twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband she was also predeceased by her son, J. Michael Collins.
Family and friends will honor and remember Margaret’s life by celebrating her Liturgical Blessings on Saturday, April 30th in the St. John’s Evangelist Church, 111 New Balch St., Beverly at 10:00 a.m. There are no visiting hours.
