Obituary

Manuel Custodio, 96, of Natick, passed away March 20, 2011 at the Wingate Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Rose (Cornwall) Custodio who passed away in 1989.

Mr. Custodio was born in Hudson on December 26, 1914 to the late Edward and Adeline Custodio. He was raised in Cambridge where he attended school. Mr. Custodio enlisted in the U.S. Navy on November 2, 1942 and served during World War II on the USS Turner and the USS Mt. Vernon. He was honorably discharged on October 22, 1945 with the rank of Seaman First Class. Mr. Custodio was employed as a brakeman with the Boston Albany Railroad for many years, retiring at the age of 62. He was an avid fisherman and a sports enthusiast.

Mr. Custodio was the devoted father of James Custodio and his wife Bette Ann of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Kenneth Custodio and his wife Lisa of Natick, and Warren Custodio and his wife Marlene of Natick; cherished grandfather of Sarah, Matthew, Nicole, Brian, and Kevin, and great-grandfather of Landon and Adrian. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mr. Custodio was preceded in death by siblings: Joseph, James, George, Marion Xavier, Mary Santos and Dorothy Sweeney.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend his funeral from the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park St. (at Natick Common) NATICK on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 9:00 AM to be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick’s Church, Natick at 10:00 AM. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, March 25, 2011 from 4-8 PM.
