GLOUCESTER: Mrs. Camilla J. (Friscia) Barbara, 92, formerly of The Lorraine Building at 80 Middle Street, died Friday, March 18, 2011 in the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Anthony J. Barbara, who died in 1978.
Born in Boston on March 15, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Catherine (Montagnino) Friscia. She had resided in Gloucester since the age of nine and was a graduate of the Gloucester High School.
Mrs. Barbara had been employed by the former O’Donnell-Usen Seafoods for over twenty years before retiring in the late 1970’s.
She was a life member of the Madonna del Rosario Society and an active volunteer at the Cape Ann Thrift Shop. She enjoyed her downtown residence and could often be seen walking about town.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Kathleen Barbara of Pittsfield; daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and John Walleston of Whitman; twelve grandchildren, Michael Demitri, Denise Alves, Donna Friedman, Anthony Barbara, Lisa Malkowski, Kathryn Barbara, Anne Lukowski, John Walleston, Jr., Daniel Walleston, Anthony Walleston, Erin Walleston and Tony Barbara; fifteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her daughter Rosalind Hopkins; son, Anthony J. Barbara, Jr.; four sisters, Rose Interrante, Lillian Friscia, Accursio “Gusie” Marchioni and Jennie Parisi; and two brothers, John and Vincenzo Friscia.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday morning in the Holy Family Parish, St. Ann Church at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Streret, Gloucester from 4 to 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
