Obituary

Dean Frederick Hofe, 75, of Mystic, Block Island, R.I., and formerly of Morristown, N.J., died Feb. 11, 2011.

He was born in West Orange, N.J., the son of George and Alice Hofe.

He was a graduate of Carteret School, Dartmouth College class of 1956, and Yale University School of Architecture, where he also received a master's degree in city planning.

Upon graduation, he accepted a position with Philip Johnson in New York City. He eventually opened his own offices in Morristown, N.J. where he practiced commercial and residential architecture. He was an active member of A.I.A., the Morristown Club, the Yale Club of NYC, and St. Bernard Church where he was on the vestry.

He took great pleasure in his summer home on Block Island, purchased nearly 50 years ago, and from which he derived much satisfaction. He belonged to the Block Island Club and spent some time on the board.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jane (Chisholm) Hofe; one son, Chisholm Douglas Hofe and wife, Sarah, of Contoocook, N.H.; and three daughters, Caroline Nowak and husband, Ross, of Norwell, Mass., Catherine Ogden and husband, Robert, of San Luis Obispo, Calif., and Charlotte Chodosh and husband, Adam, of Hopkinton, N.H. There are nine grandchildren, Hannah and Sam Ogden, Elizabeth and Bonnie Nowak, Sydney, Sarah, and Lillybelle Chodosh, and Annaserra and Adelaide Hofe.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. on March 12 at St. Bernard Episcopal Church, Bernardsville, N.J., with reception to follow at the Bernard's Inn.
