Obituary

HOLDEN-Michael Jay Ursin, 76, of Holden, passed away Monday, February 7 at UMASS Memorial Hospital. He leaves his wife of 53 years, Virginia M. (Waters) Ursin; two sons, David M. Ursin of Rutland and B. Calvin Ursin and his wife Denise of Jefferson; two daughters, Virginia M. Ursin and her husband Richard Whittington of Pawcatucket, RI and Christine D. Axbey of Wellesley. He also leaves seven grandchildren, a brother Bjarne Ursin of Bellingham, WA and a sister, Joan Ryer of PA and nephews and nieces.
He was born in Oslo, Norway, the son of Bjarne and Esther (Schiott) Ursin and was raised in Weston, MA. He graduated from Kents Hill High School in Maine and attended Rochester Institute of Technology and Clark University. He served in the US Army for ten years and also flew his private plane for the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Michael owned and operated Gov't Surplus Store in Rutland and Ursin Air Helicopter Leasing Company in Stowe for many years. He was a professional photographer and was very proud of his photographs published in World Wild Life Magazine and he also appeared on the live television program, Critter Corner which featured Rex Trailer.
All funeral services are private and will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
