Eleanor Gladys (Johnson) Hickey, of Dover and Nantucket passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at the Stanley R. Tippett Hospice Home in Needham after a short illness. She was 79 years old.
Born in Norwood, the daughter of the late Carl Emmanuel George Johnson, Sr. and Yuridis “Gladys” (Hermenson) Johnson, Eleanor was raised and educated in Norwood where she graduated from Norwood High School. She married Edward S. Hickey, Sr. in January, 1953 at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Norwood and together they shared 57 years of marriage. Eleanor was retired from Whiip Copy, Inc. where she served in the accounts payable/receivable department for 10 years. She enjoyed making beautiful bows for dried hydrangea wreaths, bargain hunting at the “Madaket Mall” and frequently shopping at charitable thrift shops on Nantucket Island. She loved spending time with her family, especially with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Eleanor was a resident of Dover for 43 years, enjoyed summering on Nantucket, and spending time on the family boat the “Shannon” which sailed out of the Charles River Yacht Club.
Eleanor was the mother of Edward S. Hickey, Jr. (Valerie) of North Attleboro, Deborah Lynn O’Malley (Thomas) of Topsfield, Pamela Hickey Patrick of Natick, Stephen Carl Hickey of Chestnut Hill, Cynthia Beth Durocher (Roger) of Amesbury and Jennifer Jill Kane of Pawtucket, RI; sister of Carl Emmanuel George, Jr. (Dinorah), Aaron Johnson (Beverly), the late Ronald Johnson and the late Philip Johnson. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held in the Chapel of the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park St. (at Natick Common) NATICK on Sunday, January 2, 2011 at 12:00 Noon. Visiting hours will be held from 11:00 AM until 12:00 Noon prior to the service. A private family burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Dover.
