Obituary

METHUEN – Alfred R. Hamel 82 of Methuen passed away peacefully on Thursday December 2, 2010 at his home.

Born and educated in Lawrence he was the son of Alfred and Desange Hamel. He worked for many years at Davidson Ferber and was also a carpenter at Lawrence General Hospital for retiring. He was a parishioner of St. Lucy’s Church in Methuen. He was a member of the Haverhill YMCA, where he enjoyed swimming. He was also an active bowler for more than 50 years at Sandy’s Bowling Lanes in Windham and also Academy Lanes in Bradford. He loved his wife, his children, traveling, especially their visit to Italy and meeting the Pope.

He leaves his wife of 63 years Lucille Y. (Blanchette) Hamel of Methuen. He is also survived by his 9 children Linda Smith and her husband Louis of Louisville, KY, Catherine Michaels and her husband Walter of Leominster, Sheila Baker and her husband Robert of Maitland, FL, Douglas Hamel and his wife Kathleen of Methuen, Jack Hamel and his wife Debra of Charleston, SC, Shirley Leavitt and her husband Scott of Roswell, IL, Cynthia Pettingill and her husband Forest of Nashua, NH, Roy Hamel and his wife Jean of Kingston, NH and Leslie Fallisi and her husband Mark of Derry, NH
2 sisters Doris Burns and her husband James of Hawaii, and Jeanette Cline and her husband Rusty of Oregon.
27 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends may call on Monday from 3:00p.m – 7:00p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00a.m. in St. Lucy’s Church also in Methuen. Burial will take place at a later date.
