Kevin McMullen, of Plymouth formerly of Waltham, Belmont and Newton, died unexpectedly on October 18th at the age of 68. The beloved husband of Joyce (Costello) for over 38 years, he was the son of the late Archibald and Elsie (Marchand) McMullen of Newton. He also leaves his sister Jane Nielsen of Needham and a brother Paul McMullen and his wife Maurine of Waltham. Uncle of Dana McMullen and his wife Ann, Katie Kanozak and her husband David, Kelly McMullen and her fiancee Justin Hussey and the late Stacey Nielsen. Kevin was born in Waltham and graduated from Newton High School Class of 1959. Upon graduation, he entered the U.S Navy. He then attended Boston State College and Northeastern where he received his Masters degree. He taught at Belmont High School for over 30 years where he also coached girls softball, boys basketball, baseball and soccer. Kevin was a member of the American Legion Post 440 in Newton and the Massachusetts Teachers Association. He was a former member of Quechee Country Club in Quechee, VT and currantly a member of the Pine Hills Country Club where he was an avid golfer. He was chosen the Teacher of the Year in 2003 and traveled to Washington, DC where he received his award from the First Lady Barbara Bush. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, October 23rd at St. Mary’s Church in N. Plymouth at 11 AM. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, October 22nd at the Richard Davis Funeral Home, 619 State Rd (Rt 3A), Plymouth (Manomet) from 4 to 8 PM. Burial will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations in his memory be made to the Stacey Nielsen Scholarship Fund, 110 Gayland Rd, Needham, MA 02492.
