Obituary

William Ernest Guarente of Osterville, MA and Weston, MA, born in Arlington, MA Jan. 18, 1934. Died at home in Osterville, MA on Sunday Oct. 17, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. William is survived by loving wife of 56 years Mary (Callahan) Guarente and was the son of the late William and Helen (Leyden) Guarente of Arlington, Ma. and his brother Robert Guarente of Harwich, Ma. He is also survived by daughter Ann Hunter and husband William Hunter of Sudbury, MA and their daughter Mary, son Mark Guarente and wife Mary Guarente of Wellesley, MA, and their children Meg, Kristin, Lauren, Sarah and William, daughter Beth Dugan and husband Owen Dugan of Wellesley, MA and their children Katherine, Caroline, Owen and Liam, son Brian Guarente of Natick, MA, son Thomas Guarente and wife Andrea Guarente and their son Benjamin of Natick, MA., daughter Lisa Hilinski and husband Scott Hilinski and their children Scott, John, Callie and Isabelle. William was the proud grandfather of 15 adoring grandchildren. William proudly served in the Armed Forces in the United States Air Force and as a reservist in the United States Marine Corps. He had a renowned career as a Wall Street executive including positions at Wood Struthers & Winthrop and at Paine Webber. He became a Partner at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette at the age of 30. He was a seat holder on the New York Stock Exchange for many years. He established one of the earliest hedge funds in Boston in 1968. He also was an accomplished entrepreneur, having owned and developed The Athlete's Foot stores throughout New England. An avid athlete, he enjoyed squash, skiing tennis, running and biking and was also a skilled pilot. Long time member of the University Club of Boston and also a member of the Oyster Harbors Club. He was an anonymous philanthropist of several charities.

Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home 477 Washington St. (RT. 16) WELLESLEY on Friday at 9AM. Funeral Mass in St. Julia's Church, Weston Center at 10AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Thursday from 4-8PM. Interment Linwood Cemetery, Weston.
