Mary Alice Dillon

Mary Alice Dillon of Woburn, passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on July 21st at the Woburn Nursing Center following a lengthy illness. Born in Woburn she was the daughter of the late Michael J. and Mary E. (Doherty) Dillon.

"Alice" as she was affectionately known by to her family and friends, was a life long resident of Woburn and lived her entire life in the same home where she was born. Alice attended Woburn schools and was a graduate of Woburn Memorial High School. In 1939 she graduated from the State Teachers College at Lowell. Shortly following her graduation she began working as an elementary school teacher with the Woburn Public Schools with her last position as a 5th grade teacher at the Hurld Elementary School. She retired from teaching following fifty years of dedicated service. Alice was very devoted to her many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews with whom she cherished spending time with. Alice was a life long parishioner of St. Charles Church and attended mass regularly throughout her life. She also enjoyed caring for her home, cutting her lawn and doing yard work, which she did well into her 80's. Alice loved animals especially cats. She was an avid sports fan always staying current on her beloved Celtics and Red Sox. Alice also enjoyed bowling for many years with her friends at the Woburn Bowladrome.

In addition to her late parents she is predeceased by her brother, the late John M. Dillon Sr. and her sister, the late Elizabeth "Betty" Dillon. She is survived by her sister-in-law Mary B. Dillon of Woburn. She is also survived by her niece, Joan Wojtas of Chelmsford, nephews, John M. Dillon Jr. of Billerica, James Dillon of Woburn, Jay T. Dillon of Billerica, and Jeffrey Dillon of Woburn. She is further survived by her great nephew John W. Dillon III, and many more loving great nieces and great nephews.

Funeral services will be held from the McLaughlin-Dello Russo Funeral Home 60 Pleasant St. Woburn, Monday, July 26th, at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Charles Church, 280 Main St., Woburn, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home will be held on Sunday from 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial in the family lot at Calvary Cemetery, Woburn. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Alice's memory to the Kitty Love Cat Shelter, 258 Burlington Ave, Wilmington, MA 01887
