Ruth A. Griffin, 94, of Windham, NH, died Thursday, April 29, 2010 at her home in Windham Terrace. Mrs. Griffin was born February 12, 1916 in Lynn, MA, daughter of the late Walter Scott and Marie Eliza (Warren) Maitland. She was raised in both Lynn and Swampscott, MA. She married Raymond F. Griffin March 23, 1940. In 1956 they moved to New Hampshire and settled in Amherst, living there until 1981. Mrs. Griffin then moved to Raymond, NH living there until December, 2008. She moved to Windham Terrace where she thoroughly enjoyed her assisted living experience; the social life, her new friends, the activities and the staff. She also cherished the summers she spent at the cottage the family built on a lake in Acton, ME, summering there from 1953 through 2008.
She is survived by three children, Roberta M. McLaughlin of Byron, IL, Rae M. Hogan of Salem, NH and Richard "Charlie" Griffin of Wyoming, six grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, two half-sisters, Sylvia Byer of Branford, CT and Barbara Putt of Shoemakersville, PA. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Ray Griffin, a son, Robert Griffin and a brother, John Maitland.
Following cremation the family will have a private burial in the Swampscott Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Northeast Affiliate 2 Wall St. Manchester, NH 03101. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry, NH is handling the arrangements.
