Obituary

Methuen, MA – Roland R. Chretien, Jr., 75, died Friday February 26, 2010 at Caritas Holy Family Hospital with his loving wife Diane, children and grandchildren by his side.
Mr. Chretien was born in Lawrence son of the late Roland R. Sr. and Lucia (Dallaire) Chretien. Roland was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and attended the University of New Hampshire.
For 22 years he was a heavy equipment operator with the Town of Methuen.
Roland was a communicant of Saint Lucy Church in Methuen and was a collector at the Saturday four o’clock Mass.. He was also the former Quartermaster, past commander, and board member as well as life member of the Arnold Greenwood Post # 8349 VFW, and was a member of the Post #122 American Legion.
Roland served his country from 1951-1959 during Korea and Vietnam in the United States Marine Corp. before being honorably discharged. He was a Purple Heart recipient.
Roland is survived by his wife of 30 years; Diane M. (Bohne) Chretien, his daughters, Jennifer Chretien Burke, Veronica & husband Steven Cyr all from Methuen, Kristina and her husband Jonathan LaRoche of Derry, NH, his sons Michael Chretien of Lawrence, Raymond Chretien and his wife Jeannette from Quincy, Roland “Chris” Chretien III and his wife Michelle of Haverhill, Mark Chretien and his wife Karen of Derry, NH and David Chretien from Plaistow, NH, three sisters, Lisa Mercado of Methuen, Marguerite Hatch of Salisbury, & Marie Buckley of Sandown, NH, two brothers Robert of Methuen and Joseph from Maine, 17 grand and 2 greatgrandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Sheila Gawrys and his son Roger Chretien.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock in Saint Lucy’s Church of Methuen with burial to follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
Friends will be warmly received on Monday from 4 to 8 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Inc. 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen. Memorial donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 770 Dedham St., Canton, MA 02021.
