Mrytle Lawrence Obituary - Water Valley MS

Mrs. Myrtle Lawrence, 89, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2010 in Alton, IL, at the Elder Care facility. She was born to the late Cleve and Hattie Person Alexander in Yalobusha County, MS. She professed her love for Christ at an early age and joined Pine Grove M. B. Church, where she served as an usher until her health began to decline. She was also a member of the Heroines of Jericho, Bryant Court # 160 for many years. Myrtle enjoyed cooking. She worked many years as a cook in the Water Valley School District. She also enjoyed fishing, sewing, gardening, quilting, and sitting in her big chair in front of the window reading her bible.
The visitation will be held at the Pine Grove M. B. Church in Yalobusha County, MS on Saturday, February 6, 2010 from 10:00 am until service time. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am at Pine Grove M. B. Church (Rev. Ed Garrison - Pastor) conducted by Rev. Cleveland Alexander, Rev. Johnny Roland and Rev. Amos Sims. The committal will be held in Pine Grove M. B. Church Cemetery with Raymond Carr, Lee Polk, Roy Lee Alexander, Amos Hervey, Cleveland Hoskins, and Rual Clay Caldwell serving as pallbearers.
Mrs. Lawrence is survived by a daughter, Lue Bertha Folson of Alton, IL; two sons, Ardell (Louise) Lawrence of Alton, Il and George Lawrence of Water Valley, MS; a daughter-in-law, Ruth Lawrence of Water Valley, MS; five sisters, Louise Telford of Memphis, TN, Helen Mott of Holly Springs, MS, Pauline Lewis, Mable Hervey, and Hattie Walls – all of Water Valley, MS; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Along with her parents, Mrs. Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Lawrence; a son, James Lawrence; and two brothers, James Alexander and Cleveland Alexander.
The family has entrusted the funeral arrangements to Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS.
