MARLBOROUGH: Janet Marie (Campana) Smith, 67, died peacefully in the comfort of her family on November 11, 2009 at the Beth Israel Hospital following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
She was born in Waltham on January 28, 1942 the daughter of the late Merigo Campana and Mary Elizabeth (McPherson) Campana.
Janet is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 49 years, William L. Smith of Marlborough. She was the beloved mother of Donna Magliozzi and her husband Robert of Natick; Victoria Jones and her husband Philip of Sudbury and Amy McAllister and her husband Robert of Boylston. Cherished Nana of Lindsey Jones; Brent Jones; Nicole Magliozzi; Eric Jones; Danielle Magliozzi; Rachel McAllister and Jillian McAllister. Also survived by her brother Thomas Campana and his wife Virginia of Winterhaven, FL and several nieces and nephews.
Janet spent her formative years in Waltham and graduated from Waltham High School. She attended Worcester State College and for 16 years was the Executive Secretary for the Town of Sudbury Housing Authority before retiring. She was an avid walker, enjoyed rug hooking and traveling to the Cape with her family. She was a Eucharistic Minister for St. Patrick Manor until her recent illness. Janet volunteered at the Marlborough Food Pantry and at Rosie’s Place in Boston. She had a great compassion for people and readily gave of herself to help those in need. Her family was the center of her life and was a Nana who loved to spend time with her grandchildren. Janet will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure to know her.
Visitations will be held on Friday, November 13, 2009 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the Bryant Memorial Chapel of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte 30), Cochituate Village, Wayland.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at the Holy Family Chapel at St. Patrick Manor, 863 Central St, Framingham.
Interment will follow in the Smith family lot in Lakeview Cemetery in Cochituate.
In lieu of flowers, her family suggests memorial gifts in Janet’s memory may be sent to Pancreatic Cancer, The Lustgarten Foundation, 111 Stewart Ave, Bethpage, NY 11714 or to the Salvation Army, 35 Concord Street, Framingham MA 01702.
