Rudolph D. "Rudy" Maffeo, a 9 year resident of Saugus and former Arlington resident for over 25 years, died unexpectedly on Friday, September 18, 2009, at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose. He was 71 years old.
Rudy was born in Boston on May 30, 1938. He grew up in Somerville where he attended Somerville Public Schools and graduated from Somerville High School. He began his entrepreneur career when he opened Jollie Donuts in South Boston in 1968. He also founded Carol Ann Bake Shop many years ago and located his business at Fanuel Hall Market Place in Boston where he worked seven days a week for many years. He also franchised the store to several mall locations throughout the Boston area. After many years of running his own business, Rudy sold his fanchise and retired and began working at Home Depot in West Roxbury as a sales person for more than 12 years. Rudy enjoyed collecting stamps and coins but with his spare time, he cherished his time with his 3 grandaughters.
Rudy is the beloved husband of 47 years to Carol A. (Abrano) Maffeo. He is the devoted father of Michael D. Maffeo of Saugus, Steven P. Maffeo and his wife Marcie of Reading, Diane M. Mangarelli and her husband Matthew of Wakefield and David M. Maffeo of St. Petersburg, Florida. He is the loving Papa to Valerie and Stephanie Maffeo and Lauren Mangarelli. He is the beloved brother of Deanna MacDonald, Ruth Gugliotti, Dorothy Muollo, Rosemarie Maffeo and Marietta Lopshire.
Rudy's Funeral will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2009, at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main Street, Melrose, followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Joseph's Church, 173 Albion Street, Wakefield, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, September 23, 2009, from 4 to 8 p.m.
