Obituary

Elvira “Vera” (Burri) Iovanni of Stoneham, formerly of Medford passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at her home with her family by her side. She was 83 years of age.

Born September 14th, 1926, Vera was the loving daughter of the late Louis Burri and Julia (Bozzi) Burri. Vera was a very outgoing, strong and witty woman who was extremely devoted to her three sons. She was a huge sports fan that adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Vera took great pride in keeping a clean house and she loved cooking for her family.

Vera loved playing bingo and taking her frequent trips to Foxwoods. She was an avid knitter who also enjoyed shopping. She was known to her grandchildren as “Nana Cookie” for always handing them a treat from the cookie jar. Vera was a warm and caring daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. Though she is gone, her memory will live forever.

Vera was the beloved wife for 63 years of the late John A Iovanni. She was the devoted mother of John A. Iovanni Jr. and his wife Patricia of Tewksbury, Thomas G. Iovanni and his wife Sharon of Stoneham and Barry F. Iovanni and his wife Jaye Rasmussen of New Hampshire. Vera was also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and Nancy Iovanni of Medford. She was the dear sister of Clifford Burri and his late wife Jessie of East Boston, Frances Tully and her late husband Robert of Florida and the late Claire Strabone and her husband Daniel, Robert Burri and his wife Helen, David Burri.

Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home 482 Main St. (RT 28) Stoneham Friday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Vera’s Life in St. Patrick Church 71 Central St. Stoneham at 10 am. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share remembrances with the Family on Thursday from 3-7pm in the Funeral Home. Parking attendants will be available. Interment Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham.
