Mary E. (McHugh) Dacey, a 63 year resident of Charlestown, died on Saturday June 27, 2009 at her home in Charlestown following a lengthy illness. She was 96 years old.
Mary was born in County Sligo, Ireland on July 14, 1912. She grew up in Sligo and attended school there. Mary came to the United States at the age of 18 and lived in Waltham for several years before settling in Charlestown. Mary began working at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston in 1961 in the housekeeping department while caring for her 10 children and husband. She retired in 1977 after 16 years of service.
Mary is the beloved wife of the late Eugene M. Dacey. She is the devoted mother of Mary Appleyard of Stoneham, Joseph Dacey of Middleboro, Peter Dacey and his wife Marylou of Randolph, Robert Dacey and his wife Nuala of Arlington, Carol Tripoli and her husband Robert of Somerville, Stephen Dacey and his wife Ruth of El Paso, Texas, Kathleen Manganelli and her husband Carl of Charlestown, the late Eugene M., John and Paul Dacey. She is the loving mother-in-law of Josephine Dacey. She is the loving grandmother of 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Mary's Funeral will be held on Wednesday July 1, 2009 at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday June 30, 2009 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
