Obituary

Ashley Streeter Darrell, 31, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, in New York City.

Ash was born in Newton, Mass., on May 5, 1978, to Philip F. and Elizabeth V. Darrell. He attended Beacon High School in Newton and graduated from School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. After finishing his education, he moved to New York to pursue a career in art, which included photography, painting, and finally sculpture.

He worked as a personal assistant to painter Brice Marden for several years before his most recent job as a gallery assistant at Cove Landing, an antiques gallery of 19th century English antiques and artifacts on Lexington Avenue.

He grew up spending his summers and holidays in Stonington where he loved to ride his bicycle up the hills of North Stonington, go boating with friends, and spend summer days at Napatree and Sandy Point, playing guitar and making music.

He is survived by his father and stepmother, Philip F. and Alison Z. Darrell; his mother, Elizabeth V. Darrell; his sister, Leigh M. Darrell; his beloved partner, Sunniva Delamaire and her three children, Guilhem, Penelope, and Elinor.

A celebration of his life in words and song will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Calvary Church, 27 Church St., Stonington. Burial will be private.
