Seraphine C. “Sera” Perry, born in Dartmouth, MA on March 16, 1921 passed away Thursday, March 26, 2009. He was the husband of 65 years to Mary “Lillie” (Pontes) Perry. He lived in Westport and was a farmer all his life. In the early years, he picked up milk jugs from local farmers and delivered to Hoods Dairy in Fall River. Later, for various brokers, he unloaded freight cars of hay and grain and delivered to local farmers with the help of his three sons. Mr. Perry was employed by Mackenzie & Winslow Grain Company in New Bedford and Fall River for many years following his retirement from the milk business. He was a Communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Westport. He enjoyed raising heifers, steers, pigeons and planting turnips with his friend, the late Russell Davis.
Seraphine was the son of the late Louis C. and Mary (Botelho) Perry of Westport. Father of the late Victor L. Perry of Westville, FL and brother of the late Aldina C. Perry and Pauline C. Cardoza of Westport.
Including his wife, survivors include 2 sons: David P. Perry and his wife June of Wasilla, AK and Michael S. Perry, Sr. and his wife Elizabeth (Quigley) of Westport; a daughter: Carolyn P. Ferry and her husband Manuel III of Westport; 13 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law: Gloria Kay (Smith) Perry of Westville, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Tuesday, March 31, 2009 from the Potter Funeral Home at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours Monday 5 -8 P.M.
Interment in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
