Obituary

Vivian A. (Huard) Smith, 85, of Fairhaven died Sunday March 1, 2009 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Edmund Smith.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Ernest D. and Veronica (Kaszynski) Huard, she lived in New Bedford most of her life, before moving to her daughter's home in Fairhaven.

She was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.

Mrs. Smith was formerly employed by the Wamsutta Mills and Aerovox.

Survivors include two children, Daniel C. Smith and his companion Joy Harrop of Deltona, Florida, and Carolyn V. Hebert and her husband Earl W. "Bill" Hebert, Sr. of Fairhaven; five grandchildren, David W. Hebert, Caryn M. Sullivan and her husband Robert, Earl William Hebert, Jr. and his wife Eleanor, Bethany A. Cynar and her husband Todd, and Matthew E. Hebert and his wife Kathy; ten great-grandchildren, Kaylin Hebert, Ryan and Veronica Sullivan, Tobe and Molly Vivian Cynar, and Matthew, Mark, Luke, Gabrielle, and Chad Hebert; her special niece Maureen Carlson of New Bedford; two sisters-in-law, Marion Popielnicki of Pocasset and Grace Plante of Dartmouth; and several nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Dorothy Rainville and Ernest R. Huard.

Her Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 9 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 121 Mount Pleasant St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours are omitted. For online condolence book, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
