GLOUCESTER: Dorothy L. (Sessler) Sylvain, 82, passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2009 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Roger Sylvain, who died in 1979.
Born in Rochester, New Hampshire on January 22, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Ella (Hall) Sessler. She moved to Gloucester in 1962.
Mrs. Sylvain had been a resident of Sheedy Park for the past twenty years, where she had many close and devoted friends.
She had been employed at the former Bob’s Clam Shack, Mal’s, King’s and Ames Department Store, until her retirement in 1989.
She was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed lunch dates with friends and vacationing with her daughter, Nancy and her family. She was a member of the Guild of Our Lady and was a past member of the Gloucester Emblem Club No. 339.
She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Richard and Carol (Douglass) Sylvain and Jody Sylvain all of Gloucester, two daughters and a son-in-law, Nancy and Everett Arruda, Jr. of Haverhill and Deborah Eastman of PA, seven grandchildren, Shawn Arruda of NY, Jon, husband of the late Colleen Eastman of PA, Mark, husband of Brandy Sylvain of MI, Matthew Eastman of Gloucester, Wendy, wife of Randy Zucco of Goshen, and Sandra, wife of Jason Brown, Stacy Sylvain all of Gloucester and Ashley Arruda of Haverhill, and her sister, Elizabeth Sutton of FL. She also leaves her adopted grandchildren, Susanne Davis and Roy Davis of Haverhill as well as seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her sister, Barbara Vermette, and three brothers Roland, Lawrence and Walter Sessler, Jr.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Our Lady of Good Voyage Church on Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
