Irene M. (Ferreira) Morris Batt of Eugene Murphy Village, Somerset, died on Feb. 8, 2009 at Charlton Memorial Hospital at the age of 81.
She was the wife of the late Richard B. Batt and the late Frank Morris.
Born in N. Dighton, she was the daughter of the late Frank M. and Wilhelmina (Dreis) Ferreira.
Educated in N. Dighton and Taunton schools, she later worked at the Princess House for many years before retiring as supervisor.
A communicant of St. Patrick Church in Somerset, she was an active volunteer and caregiver, assisting the Fall River Society of St. Vincent de Paul and the Catholic Memorial Home.
She enjoyed crafts.
She leaves a son, Frank “Buddy" Morris of Swansea; a daughter, Anna Jacob of Westport; 3 stepsons, Robert Batt of Bedford, Steven Batt of N. Dartmouth, and Peter Batt of Assonet; 2 stepdaughters, Louise Miller of GA and Claire DiManno of Somerset; a brother, John Ferreira of Kensington, CA; 2 sisters, Margaret Correia of Tiverton, RI and Dorothy Latour of Taunton; 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also the stepmother of the late Jeffrey Batt and sister of the late Francis Ferreira, William Moniz, and Evelyn Ferreira.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Patrick Church, Somerset on Friday, Feb. 13th at 10 a.m.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Burial of her cremated remains will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery.
