H. L. Cartwright, Jr., 87, of Tifton died Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 15, 2009, in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton’s First Baptist Church. Dr. Wayne Roe and Dr. W. Ches Smith III will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Frank McGill, David Carlson, Steve Dixon, Walker Irwin, Dr. Joe Turner and Billy Hall will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Adult II Forum Sunday school class of Tifton’s First Baptist Church and Ronnie Hand, Marvin Moore, Mack Suggs, Jim Butler and Curtis Branch. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 15, 2009, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Cartwright was born on October 4, 1921 in Tifton and was the son of Homer Lee Cartwright, Sr. and Irene Bowen Cartwright, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by one brother, James Cartwright. He was retired as the manager of King’s Appliance and Electronics in Albany and was a member of Tifton’s First Baptist Church. He taught Bible classes at Southern Care Retirement Home and was Past President of the Albany Exchange Club from 1969-1970. He was active in the Albany Boy Scouts and a United States Navy veteran.
Mr. Cartwright is survived by his wife, Hilda Joe Adams Cartwright of Tifton; two sons, Marion Cartwright of Athens and Charles Cartwright of Albany; two daughters and a son-in-law, Kathy and George Webb of Omaha, Nebraska and Joanna Cook of Athens; two sisters, Sadie Cartwright of Tifton and Sister Maureen Cartwright of Atlanta; one granddaughter and her husband, Hope and Matt Haney of Omaha, Nebraska; and one great grandchild, McKenna Haney.
