Obituary

Louis F. Vaudry, Jr., 76, of Fairhaven, MA died Monday Dec. 31, 2001 at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford after a period of failing health. He was the husband of Lucille M. (Mathieu) Vaudry; they had been married for 46 years. Born and raised in New Bedford, the son of the late Louis F. and Annette (Loiselle) Vaudry, he was a graduate of Assumption Preparatory School and Assumption College in Worcester.

During World War II, he served as a Pharmacist's Mate, Second Class in the U.S. Navy in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. After his time in the service, he worked for 28 years as a pharmaceutical sales representative for Glaxo SmithKline, before retiring in 1987. During that time, he was active in professional associations, serving as President of the Rhode Island Traveling Men's Auxiliary Association.

After moving to Fairhaven, he became active in town politics, participating on the Finance Committee and later serving as the elected Town Moderator for a number of years. Mr. Vaudry was later the Veteran's Agent for Town of Fairhaven until his illness in 2000. He had also worked as a Realtor in the Southeastern Massachusetts area.

An avid golfer, he was an honorary member of the Reservation Golf Club, where he had served on the Board of Directors and as club secretary for 13 years. He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church in Mattapoisett.

In addition to his loving wife Lucille, he leaves behind 2 daughters, Marie A. McCooey and her husband Alfred of Cumberland, RI, and Lee F. Gifford and her husband Mark of North Attleboro; a son, Stephen L. Vaudry of Smithfield, RI; 5 grandchildren, Sean M. McCooey, Meghan E. McCooey, Ryan J. McCooey, Adam F. Gifford, and Marissa J. Gifford; a sister, Pauline Kautz of Rochester, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.

His Funeral will be held on Thursday January 3, 2002 at 10 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Route 6, Mattapoisett, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. Anthony's Church, Barstow St., Mattapoisett. Interment will be private. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday January 2, 2002 from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
