Joseph Chaves, age 73 of Fall River. Son of the late John and Maria Dos Anjos (Vieira) Chaves. Passed away in Fall River, Oct. 20, 2008. Born in Fenais Da Luz, Sao Miguel, Azores, he was a Fall River resident since 1944. He was a member of St. Michael Church, was a former member of the Fall River Pigeon Racing Club and an avid sportsman. He was a great benefactor of the Catholic Charities. He was an Army Recon Scout in the 1st. Army w/rank of Sgt. He was an innovator in automobile sales & was the former owner of Towne Liquors in Swansea.
Besides his former wife, Teodora (Correia) Gaio & he is survived by 2 children: Alan Noel Chaves and his wife Maria of Middleboro, MA and Lory Anne Libby and her husband Mark of Swansea, MA; 2 siblings: John Chaves of Fall River and Carl Chaves of Berkley; 4 grandchildren: Nicholas Chaves, Christopher, Jonathan & Julia Libby & several nieces & nephews.
His funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main Saturday at 9 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Michael Church at 10 A.M. Interment in St. Patrick Cemetery. Calling hours Friday 5-9 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Michael Church and School 189 Essex St., Fall River, MA 02720
