Linda Raye Richards, age 58, of Poquonnock Road in Groton, formerly of Mystic, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2008.
Linda was born in New London, CT March 10, 1950, the daughter of the late Raymond H. and Mae (Elliott) Richards.
Even though Linda was confined to a wheelchair for most of her life, she challenged life with a strong will and free spirit. It was this very spirit that enabled her to graduate from Stonington High School and later attend college in New Jersey. She had a great sense of adventure. Her sense of humor, creativity and artistic ability will always be remembered by those who knew and loved her. Her love of adventure included trips to her friend Val's in New Jersey and later New York City. She also visited Florida, New Orleans and took a trip across the ocean to Switzerland.
Linda is survived by a brother, Edward Essam of Mystic, a sister Peggy (Essam) Carbo of Louisiana, a brother Raymond Richards, Jr. of Waterford; nephews Frank Day and Jeff Essam; nieces Gwen Day and Chantal (Carbo) Correll; 8 great nieces and nephews, many friends and her beloved pet birds, especially “Sweetie”.
The family would like to thank the many caregivers for their loving attention and dedication over the many years that Linda needed their help. She was able to remain independent all of her life, many thanks to them.
Honoring Linda's wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral. Burial will be private.
