Mary Ruth DeAngelis, of Roger Williams Drive, Greenville, died Thursday, July 3rd at RI Hospital in Providence. She was the beloved wife of John A. DeAngelis. Her death comes on the eve of their 66th wedding anniversary.
Born in Philadelphia, Mississippi, she was the daughter of the late Walter &Gertrude (Gilbert) Johnson.
Ruth passed away among all her family members after a 6 month illness. Her passions were her beloved husband, Johnny, her son and grandchildren. She loved golf, the Boston Red Sox and cooking. She was a member of the “Greatest Generation”, having met her husband during wartime while he was stationed in Mississippi. Following a 3 month romance they were married on the 4th of July, 1942, just prior to her husband’s leaving for the Pacific Theater. He returned in 1945 and began their married life together, moving to RI and settling in Smithfield. She was formerly a Democrat State Committeewoman and long time supporter of the Democratic Party.
Besides her husband, she leaves a son, Joseph DeAngelis of Cranston, two grandchildren, Matthew P. DeAngelis of Smithfield and Joseph R. DeAngelis of Boston, MA, a sister, Sue Howard of Nashua, NH, a brother, Charles H. Johnson of Clarksdale, MS, and a daughter in law, Denise M. DeMarco of Cranston.
A Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday at 9:30 am in St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Greenville. Burial will follow in Highland Park, Johnston. Visitation respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Heart Assn, 1 Union Street, #301, Robbinsville, NJ 08691-4183
