Charles E. Duncan of Nashville, Tennessee and formerly of Needham and South Yarmouth died peacefully Thursday, April 10, 2008 at Centennial Hospital in Nashville. He was 93.
Born in Nashville,Tennessee, he enjoyed a part time career as a singer with a band and was showcased on a daily 15 minute radio show. He joined the army during WWII , serving in North Africa and Italy. He met and married his wife, Lousie Levine, an army nurse, during his service in Italy. After the war he joined his wife in Massachusetts to start his family and his long career as an accountant and comptroller of J. L. Hammett Schools Supplies of Braintree.
Upon his retirement from J.L.Hammett, he and his wife Louise settled in South Yarmouth, where he continued to pursue his passion for golf.
The youngest of 9 children, he returned to Nashville after his wife, Louiseās death. For the last 15 years he has enjoyed his life as the much loved and admired patriarch for the large and ever growing extended family of the original Duncan clan in Nashville.
He is survived by his children, Linda Reichold of Doylestown, PA, and Charles Duncan Jr. of Sandwich . His grandchildren, Kristen Reichold Stinchcombe of Toronto, Canada, Geoffrey Reichold of Jacksonville, Florida, Kelly Duncan and Nickolas Duncan of Sandwich and his two great grandchildren, Jack and Piper Stinchcombe of Toronto, Canada.
A funeral service will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Ave Needham on Saturday April 19th at 1:00 PM. Interment will take place at the Needham Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the John David Duncan Memorial Scholarship Fund, Bucknell University, Lewisburg, PA.
