New Bedford – Manuel Sardinha Medeiros age 84 years died March 8, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital, unexpectedly.He was the husband of Maria S. (Coelho) Medeiros of New Bedford. Father of Lidia Almeida and her husband Fernando of Georgia, Margaret DeMelo and her husband Julio of E. Freetown, Ana DeMedeiros and her husband Manuel of New Bedford, Maria Laliberte and her husband Steven of Ft. Myers, Florida, Maria Paula Blevins of New Bedford and her late husband George, Ricardo Medeiros and his wife Heather of New Bedford. Mr Medeiros is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 1 on the way, 14 great grandchildren , several nieces and nephews, 1 brother Joseph Sardinha of New Bedford and 2 sisters Jorgelina Sardinha and Elmira Barbosa both of St. Michael. He was the brother of the late Abilio and Maria Do Carmo Sardinha.
Mr. Medeiros was the son of the late Manuel Sardinha and Elvira (Medeiros) Sardinha. He was born in Agua Retorta, St. Michael Azores until he moved to the New Bedford area in 1966. He worked as a presser at Dartmouth Clothing until his retirement. Mr Medeiros was also the former owner of Café Sport in Ponta Delgada. He Enjoyed playing cards and being with his family, also enjoyed watching his favorite soccer team Benfica.
Mr. Medeiros Funeral will be Wednesday at 8:00 A.M. at Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church; Burial will follow at St John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 5-8 P.M.
