Frances Elizabeth (Sherman) Spoor, 80, of New Bedford, died Friday February 22, 2008 at Tobey Hospital after a long illness. She was the widow of Alphonse J. Spoor.
A lifelong New Bedford resident, she was the daughter of the late Melville L. and Mary B. (Reed) Sherman.
Mrs. Spoor worked at F.W. Woolworth Company for ten years when it was located on Acushnet Avenue. After her marriage she was a housewife. She also was a volunteer for Hospice for five years.
Her hobbies were knitting, crocheting, embroidering, and reading. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother.
Survivors include four children, Donna M. Ferreira and her husband Daniel of Acushnet, Robin F. Chmielewski and her husband Stanley, and Tami A. Kabala and her husband Tommy, and David A. Spoor, all of New Bedford; two sisters, Doris G. Sylvia of New Bedford and Lucille M. Ventor of Sullivan, ME; two brothers, Gary W. Sherman of New Bedford and Linwood A. Sherman of Nevada; seven grandchildren, Daniel J. Ferreira, Jr., Jennifer A. Ferreira, Tanya E. Chmielewski, Jonathan S. Chmielewski, Kyle T. Kabala, Jocelyn E. DaSilva, and Tyler N. Kabala; four great-grandchildren, Alexis M. Ferreira, Misty A. Gilmour, Jarod C. Kaylor, and Kayton J. Chmielewski; and several nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
She was the sister of the late Ellery K. Sherman, Ernest L. Sherman, and JoAnn B. Bodeau.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Monday from 4-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
