Obituary

Gerald F. Phillips, 89, of Brookfield died Saturday, January 5, 2008, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2008, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Wayne Driskell and Dr. Carl Marshall will officiate with burial to follow in Lawrence Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Harmon Coarsey, Robert Phillips, Dr. James Phillips, Mike Nolan, Ricky Phillips and Joel Q. Godwin, Jr. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 7, 2008, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Mr. Phillips was born on November 11, 1918 in Rebecca and was the son of Sylvester "Ves" Phillips, Sr. and Lille Bell Ivey Phillips, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Janet Salter Peters; and two brothers, Sylvester Phillips, Jr. and Stanton Phillips. He was retired from Tifton Aluminum and a member of Brookfield Baptist Church. He was also a member of the American Legion and served in the United States Navy during World War II.

Mr. Phillips is survived by his wfie, Evelyn Lassiter Phillips of Brookfield; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Don Salter of Mobile, Alabama, Darrel and Shelly Salter of Albany, and John and Shelley Salter of Page, Arizona; one daughter and son-in-law, Myra P. and Joel Godwin of Valdosta;; one brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Clarice Phillips of Tifton; two sisters, Evelyn Bartlett of Columbus, and Marjorie Nolan of Swannee; 12 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
