Obituary

Maurice S. "Steve" Pelland, a 43 year resident of Reading died at his home in Reading on Tuesday January 1, 2008 after a lengthy illness. He was 75 years old.

Steve was born in Billerica on May 1, 1932. He grew up in Malden where he attended the Chevrus Parachoial School and graduated from Malden High School. He furthered his education and attended Northeastern University and Merrimac College and recieved his Bachelor of Science degrees in Industrial, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. He enlisted into the United States Air Force on June 23, 1950 and served during the Korean Conflict and while in the Air Force he also attended the University of Alaska. He was discharged on June 22, 1954 with the rank of Airman Second Class. Steve worked for several engineering companies in the area including Raytheon for 3 years and 3-COM Corporation for 10 years. He retired in 2000 to spend time with his family. He was very active and a great Equestrian rider for over 40 years and enjoyed carpentry and building furniture.

Steve is the beloved husband of 51 years to Joan A. (Flaherty) Pelland. He is the devoted father of Mary A. Tortolano, Stephen A. Pelland, Joan M. Pelland all of Reading, Mark J. Pelland of Peabody and David P. Pelland of Rowley. He is the loving grandfather of 7 grandchildren.

Steve's Funeral will be held on Saturday January 5, 2008 at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main St. Melrose, at Wakefield line followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Patrick's Church, 71 Central St. Stoneham at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours for Steve will be on Friday January 4, 2008 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will take place at Charles Lawn Cemetery, Reading.
