Obituary

Leo F. Martel, a 36 year resident of Melrose, died on Saturday September 1, 2007 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was 84 years old.

Leo was born in Cranston, Rhode Island on January 30, 1923. He grew up in Woonsocket, Rhode Island where he went to school there. He enlisted into the United States Navy on February 22, 1943 and served during World War 2. He was discharged on July 18, 1945 with the rank of Fireman First Class. Leo was a member of the Brick Layers Union Local # 12 for over 50 years. Following his retirement from the Brick Layers Union he worked for Puraqua Pools in Waltham as a serviceman for 10 years. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 4524 of Revere.

Leo is the beloved husband of Dolores M. (Perelli) Martel. He is the devoted father of Renee Martel of Reading, Steven W. Porcello of Florida, Denise Broughton of Ashland, Donna Marquis of Tewksbury, John Porcello and Debra Cogan both of New York. He is the loving grandfather of 13 grandchildren. He is the beloved brother of Jeanette Roy of Rhode Island and the late Raymond Martel.

Leo's Funeral will be held on Thursday morning September 6, 2007 at 9 a.m. from the Carr Funeral Home 1159 Main St. Melrose at Wakefield line followed by his Funeral Mass in The Most Blessed Sacrament Church 1155 Main St. Wakefield at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours for Leo will be held on Wednesday September 5, 2007 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will take place at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
