Obituary

Rodrigue “Dick” N. Soucy 87, of South Main St. died Tuesday at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Lucille (Desaulniers) Soucy. Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Adelard and Eva (Gelinas) Soucy. Mr. Soucy was a proud Woonsocket resident all his life.
Mr. Soucy was a WWII Army veteran serving in the 19th Cavalry Reconnaisance Squad. He earned a campaign ribbon for his service in the European, African, and Middle Eastern Theatre.
After his discharge from military service he went to work in the Soucy Insurance Agency where he worked for 48 years. Eventually he became the owner/operator until his retirement in 1994.
Mr. Soucy was a communicant of Holy Family Church, a member of the Millerville Mens’ Club, The Independent Insurance Agents of RI, and was also a founding member of the Marquette Credit Union.
He was a generous man, and believed no one should ever go hungry, giving to many area and state agencies for the disadvantaged.
He was most importantly a loving and dedicated father, grandfather and great grandfather, and in addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons Andre and David Soucy, both of Woonsocket, and four daughters; Michelle Gauvin, Francoise Cecconi, Diane Colerick, all of Woonsocket, and Danielle Peloquin of Pascoag. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren; Sarah, Deana and Daniel Gauvin, Cheryl Casserly, Steven Lemieux, Meaghan Colerick, Spencer and Peter Soucy, Adam and Andrew Soucy, and Jill Unwin.. In addition, he is survived by seven great grandchildren; Anthony Gauvin, Daniel, McKenzie, and Olyvia Gauvin-Dutile, Asia Spearman-Gauvin, and Jarrek and Caden Unwin. Mr. Soucy is survived by a brother Rene Soucy of Etters PA. He was also the brother of the late, Adelard, Jean-Paul, Gabrielle, and Germaine Soucy.
His funeral will be held Saturday at 10:00 from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home 463 South Main St. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 at Holy Family Church also on So. Main St. Burial will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery in Bellingham. Visiting hours are Friday 2-4 and 7-9 pm.
