GLOUCESTER: Rose (Frazier) Pless, 85, died on Friday, June 1, 2007 at the Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester. She was the wife of the late Alexander Pless.
Born in Red Cloud, Nebraska on July 7, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Bayard Rhodes Frazier and Eva (Feltis) Frazier. She grew up and attended schools in the Berkshires, graduating from Dalton High School. She loved be in the Berkshire Hills and later returned for visits as often as she could.
A veteran of World War II, she served with the Women’s Army Corps overseeing the drafting of charts and plans at the Pentagon. After the war, she attended the University of California at Berkeley, majoring in architecture. This led to a number of architecture projects including home designs, numerous Mac-Gray Laundromats around New England, and work on Gloucester architectural committees including the Head of the Harbor Project.
She was an avid golfer and spent many happy days on the links at Bass Rocks Golf Club. She played bridge at every opportunity and enjoyed some wonderful games. She liked to travel and talked often of her trips out west and to Alaska. While at home, gardening was her delight.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Zoe Alexi of Andover, two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Kazue Pless of Chester and Alex and Barbara Pless of Rockport, four granddaughters, Kirsten and Deborah Pless of Rockport, and Anna and Maria Pless of Chester, and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her brother Loring, and sisters, Virginia and Zoe.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 24th in the Rockport Unitarian Universalist Society at 2 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her name to the Rockport Unitarian Universalist Society, 4 Cleaves Street, Rockport, MA 01966.
